{loose lips}

Who has developed a relationship with their local takeaways shop?

In most village centers here there seem to be two fish 'n chips shops and I'm guessing people pick one and stick with it. Call it loyalty. I am not a fan of seafood and the burgers at our fish 'n chips shop are made fresh from real beef, so our choice was an easy one. By the way, fish 'n chips shops serve more than just fish 'n chips. Typically they also have asian food, burgers, and pretty much anything deep fried, including hot dogs, squid, bananas, pineapple rings, and candy bars. Seriously.

Anyway, last night for some reason, still unknown to me, I decided to take my realtionship with our fish 'n chips lady to the next level...

Well, Jeremy had a rough day, so I suggested getting fish 'n chips. We headed to the local and while I went in to order, Jeremy walked down to the 4 Square for milk. Now it was early, so I was the only customer in the shop and she began talking to me about the baby store that opened up next door. This seemed rather random since it's been a while since the shop opened. She said, "You don't have kids yet but maybe someday you will." When a simple nod or a smile would have done just fine, I instead chose to reply, "Well, actually we're expecting." She got all excited and began pointing to her stomach and making the gestures of a big pregnant belly and said, "You mean this?" Apparently we are having a boar, as in next year is the year of the boar.

Meanwhile Jeremy returned just as the conversation progressed to cribs and clothing. He quietly observed.

Once outside Jeremy turned to me, grinning but in shock and asked, "YOU MEAN YOU TOLD THE FISH 'N CHIPS LADY? IS THERE ANYONE YOU HAVEN'T TOLD? Should we stop and tell this random man on the corner? What's wrong with keeping our personal business private?" This was really no surprise coming from a man who didn't tell a soul, including the people he spends 10 hours a day with, because he didn't want to cause a fuss. Still he has only told a couple people recently, and that was purely out of necessity!

It was all very amusing.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and kind words lately. :)

in six months our lives will change completely

CB_ParentsToBe

We are officially parents to be! And, no, not to another fur baby this time! I'm 13 weeks along and still battling the all day sickness...and losing. We've had a few scares, but we're hopeful. And beyond excited!!

CB_FirstOfMany

The photo above was from a scan at 7 weeks. We've since had several more scans but I haven't gotten around to scanning those pics yet. There is one we're particularly excited about where the little one is waving at us. So cute.

So much to do before May. I just wish my energy level and motivation matched that long list!

note: The first layout was inspired by this layout.

he certainly is a fighter...

companionship.

Eddye remains in serious condition in the ICU at the acute care facility. He is still in a coma but is showing some evidence of "waking up"...a very slow and gradual process. He is opening his eyes, holding a gaze, tracking sound, yawning, coughing, moving his mouth, and responding to pain. However, he is not yet responding to commands which is a concern. The sooner he does, the better the prognosis.

He has pneumonia and is still dependent on the ventilator and remains on full dialysis. There are no plans in the near future for repairing all his broken bones.

Reportedly he has at least some vision in both eyes and is hearing at level 2 on a scale of 1 to 5.

His brain damage is sadly pretty extensive, so this recovery process will be a long one.

one more year

black & white

One more year and after the harsh reality of late, it is not to be taken for granted.

I love having a Guy Fawkes birthday--I can pretend the fireworks are all for me. Saturday night we made a nice picnic of warm and toasty roast chicken sandwiches and a salad, bundled up, and headed down to the beach to watch Wellington's big display. Good show. I was amazed at how well we could see from so far across the harbour. Afterwards we just sat and watched all the hundreds (possibly a slight over-estimation) of private displays scattered around the hills.

We saw a hedgehog on the way down too. Cute.

I got so much mail this year. It was a nice treat. Many letters and gifts from friends and family. My parents sent a humongous care package that was en route for about six weeks and it arrived in perfect time for the big day. How lucky! My sister left a gift for me way back in June. It was all wrapped and tucked away in a closet. How organized!

And on Saturday I received some Reese's Cups in the mail from a scrapbooker who read a while back that I love them. Is that kind or what?

On Sunday after opening too many gifts, we headed to the carnival in our village. Fun fun. Ate a lot. Jeremy made a nice gumbo for dinner and a strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Seems like the weekend was defined by "what are we eating next?"

On Saturday morning we did some much-needed clean-up in and around the house. Jeremy got all the summer veggies in the ground. Very productive few hours. There's still plenty to do, but it was nice to spend the rest of the weekend relaxing guilt-free in an orderly house. It was also nice to see Jeremy do so little work work over the weekend--it was great for him to chill a bit.

What did I ask Jeremy for this year for my birthday? If a computer was out of the question, then family time & a clean house would be perfect. Really. And as evidenced above, these wishes were granted. But he insisted that if he didn't get me anything more concrete, I would not only hold it against him, I'd also tell my mom. Funny. My mom prefers to think that he just doesn't want to disappoint her rather than that he is scared of her. (OK, so I did tell my mom the story!) In the end, he got me a piece of the pottery that we are collecting. Very nice.

And now life has returned to what is now considered normal. The princess treatment gone for another year.

cause for optimism

pure laughter. total joy.

Eddye has been fairly stable for the last week-and-a-half. They haven't found any evidence of the fungal infection, which had been one of the major causes for concern a week or so ago. Also many of his bacterial infections have already or are clearing.

He still remains in a coma and very sick, however they hope to wean him from the ventilator in the coming days. A move to an acute care facility seems to be around the corner.

Finally, a bit of good news.
